Fabulous place! Staff are so friendly, extremely clean and facilities so so lovely. Lots of machines to use in the gym as well as free weights, pool is always spotless and perfect temperature. All in all a lovely environment. Gym goers are friendly too and helpful, if you're new to the gym! Price of membership definitely worth it for the location and the facilities!
Been a member of y club for 2 years and this gym is just cheeky in terms of how they extort you when you try and cancel your membership. Their gym was flooded so they moved everything into the basketball court and charged you full price for the most uncomfortable, impractical space. Then I tried to cancel and they said I have to pay another month even though I’ve just paid for April, so they are forcing me to pay a month where I won’t use the gym so they can extort me for more money for their impractical pretty much useless service. Its a joke
A fabulous club with a great community atmosphere unlike any other gym. The gym equipment is perfect for me, however I especially love the large sports hall where you can play badminton, hit the punch bag, shoot some hoops on the basketball court or join in on the many classes. The staff are second to none both in the YClub and especially the Castlefield Hotel upstairs which has great food discounted for us members and is a perfect place to work from - they give you access to the WiFi which is particular helpful if you’re a freelancer like myself. Overall I’d give the place 100 out of 10 - I cannot recommend high enough.
Been coming here for years and it's been a great experience! Staff are consistently friendly and helpful and the facilities are better than most gyms I've tried in Manchester. Although the gym area is smaller than some other gyms, it has everything you need and thankfully never gets so busy that you have to wait for any equipment. There's a great range of classes and it's really easy to sign up on the app. The running track and punching bag are an added bonus too! Overall, fantastic gym and would definitely recommend!
Great health/club gym in Manchester city centre, a bit of a hidden gem I think. *The Good* Membership prices are pretty reasonable and you get a LOT. There's a full size swimming pool, steam room, sauna, and there are tons of clubs and classes at the Y with EXCELLENT instructors which are free to join as a member - including having their own wrestling team (and it's a really good one)!! The instructors/PTs are also all really high quality and it's very impressive to get so much included in one membership fee. The gym area itself is a bit small and limited on equipment and can be very busy at peak times, so it's not my first choice for a gym workout but it has all the main stuff you would want to see in a gym. It could do with more of a proper free weights section for lifting & would love to see a boxing bag, but I love it for the pool and facilities and the classes and I'd recommend it for the wrestling alone (if that's your thing). *The Bad* My main criticism is they have some pretty unaccommodating and inflexible policies if you need to cancel or suspend your membership. They don't allow you to suspend memberships, and require actual evidence of hardship if you need to cancel on shorter notice for any reason. This caused me some issues personally when I needed to take a break due to Personal Circumstances which pulled me out of Manchester to take care of a sick family member (which I didn't think I would need to provide evidence of to a gym?? and frankly it's none of their business and quite invasive) and thought I would be able to pause my membership and return later, only to find they didn't accept my cancellation and ended up taking me to collections over it. You also cannot do this over the phone, so if your situation (like mine) means you can't go to the gym in person to cancel you're out of luck. Most other gyms are much more flexible with these things so it's the first time having that kind of issue. Notwithstanding all that I still paid up and I still think it's a good gym, but I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of flexibility and compassion, and weirdly invasive evidence requirements.
