Nice lobby area and staff, however the rooms are not in good condition. Mould in the bathrooms and broken bits of unit and uncomfortable beds. No air-con either and you can only crack the window open a few inches so a really bad night sleep staying here. The breakfast in the morning wasn’t too bad however it had been left out a while. The location is ideal but I feel there are much better places to stay around this area for a similar price.
Location was ideal for us and the shower had good pressure, but that is the only positive comments I could possibly leave here. We stayed for 2 nights, the rooms are very small and in desperate need of an update. Both nights we were woken by multiple people walking by on their way in and people having conversations outside their room - the walls are extremely thin!! My partner and I barely slept a wink, we felt like we were part of the student accommodation opposite us with all the racket. There is no parking at the hotel, meaning we had to leave the car in a car park nearby which was expensive, even with the hotel discount. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want a peaceful nights sleep, also quite pricey for what we got.
Stayed here for 2 nights, rooms very small. No bedside cabinet or light. Went to the garden bar for a drink to find no bar staff and when he did appear he was miserable, so we left without a drink. Nowhere on the website does it say that the hotel is situated next to student accommodation, got woken up by loud students both nights. Also think rooms are very overpriced
We stayed here for a night for a gig and it’s in a great place and super affordable. The decor and general feel of the place is very 2000s-ey and for sure needs an update. We had a compact room which didn’t have a lot of features other than a bed and en-suite, but that’s all you need really! I definitely would feel the pinch if I was staying here for more than one night though. The breakfast was okay and holds its own against other hotel breakfasts.
I'm awake at 00.30 in the hotel room. It's incredibly noisy. I can hear residents in the room next door having a conversation, and someone in the room upstairs sliding around in the bath. There's no soundproofing whatsoever. This is a room I paid an upgrade for... The room itself is fine. Bed is comfortable enough, plenty of storage and desk space. Bath and shower. However, the door to the room doesn't close behind you, and there is no safety chain (obviously was one once but it's been removed). As a lone female traveller it means I'm a little paranoid, especially having to wear earplugs to overcome the noise. Within an hour of being here I broke out in a hive like rash on my arms, no sign of bites or anything. I only mention because another reviewer said they had dermatological issues too, I'm wondering if something they're cleaning rooms or bedding with is causing a reaction with some people. The garden bar is chaotic. Charged £13 for a £10 pizza, ordered a crumble, half an hour later "sorry, we've sold out, would you like a burger instead?" A burger, instead of a dessert? I asked what desserts they did have, no idea. They did the right thing and fetched 'the manager' (the one that overcharged the pizza), he apologised, no crumble, would I like a burger. I explained I'd already had a pizza and was wanting dessert, he had no idea what desserts they had, I had to ask if they had ice cream, he had no idea what flavours they had. My friends were all waiting half an hour plus for their food with many orders getting mixed up. If this was a large restaurant I could understand it, but the bar isn't actually that big. Maybe 12 tables? Considering its a conference hotel, they should be used to big numbers but none of them seemed to have an idea what they were doing. Poured Guinness like a regular pint... bringing two plates of food out on a room service trolley in a busy bar... I actually feel sorry for the staff, they've clearly not been given the training, resources, or support they need. Overall, incredibly expensive for what you get. Too noisy to get decent sleep, doesn't feel particularly secure, staff training seems lacking which is a concern if there was an emergency. I honestly would not recommend (definitely don't make the mistake of paying extra to 'upgrade' your room, I honestly think my friend in his tiny standard room is having a much easier night. Definitely eat elsewhere in the evening.
