It's not good at all that most of the gyms in Manchester are broken. I couldn't work out today because the exercise machines were broken. Poor management.

The gym was very uncomfortable to workout in and felt suffocated. Their machines are outdated and some are squeaky and loose. It feels like im working out in someone’s basement. On top of that their cancellation process is a nightmare. It is not straightforward and can be done the same day like Puregym for example. I had to make a request then wait almost 3 weeks. Within those 3 weeks they had already taken another payment off me. Very very unsatisfied with JD overall

I've been going to this gym for the best part of a year now so I feel that's enough time to give my thoughts on it and the staff. I'll start with the kind and caring Chloe who is the manager there. Before I even joined the gym I sent an email asking several questions such as what was the ettiqute for the sauna etc and she replied almost right away and was very.... human which might sound like a strange thing to say but that human touch can't be taken for granted these days. She kindly asked if I wanted a tour of the gym to put me at ease but just by being her she did that via email. :) Next up I would like to talk about my personal trainer Colin. This absolute beast of a man and kind gentleman came up to me when I was working on cardio as I normally do and asked me if I wanted a free session due to certain reasons and I accepted. It was the best choice I've ever made because my progress towards my health goals has been so fast since he started me on my 12 week plan. Colin himself has been through his own path to losing a lot of weight and I felt he really understood the complexities that come with being overweight both mentally and on the old body! If you're looking for a PT that is down to earth, an extremely kind lad and really knows his stuff totally look into him. Honestly, the staff in general have been kind to me and always helpful. Because I've been going for awhile now a lot of them say hello and always reply back when I wish them a good weekend. I think it shows a lot about the quality of a gym by how good of a team they all are. In terms of facilities its well equipped. I won't say it's the perfect gym because things could always be improved such as converting some of the showers in the male area to being hot and cold as there is only one at the moment. Generally though it's going to have everything you need equipment wise and I'm sure with time there might even be more machines added so there is less of a wait for certain machines. TLDR: Great gym, friendly staff and good feeling from the people that go there. Well priced for offering what it does + a sauna in both male and female changing rooms.

Been going to this gym for years but the refurb has ruined it for me. Sure it looks nice but you're getting *significantly* less for your money as they've removed a ton of the facilities, classes and features that made it a good gym. Things that have been removed since the refurb: - all of the boxing equipment and bags - the entire fitness studio + studio equipment (and all the free classes that came with it - bye bye yoga) - the spin studio Things that have been added: - more weights - spin studio has been replaced by a glute station (for me the only actual improvement since I don't do spin) Before the refurb there was a large studio with a wide variety of popular classes included in the membership including HIIT and yoga - all this is now gone. The entire fitness studio along with all the studio equipment, sandbags, bulgarian bags, mats, etc. has been totally removed to make room for more weights and there is now barely any space to do bodyweight training, circuits or calisthenics (other than the rings) as the new "functional area" is tiny. All the boxing equipment and bags are also gone, which is devastating as it was pretty much the only reasonably priced gym left in city centre with boxing equipment. All there is now is cardio equipment and weights. There is no studio, no yoga, & no boxing. This was my favourite gym in town but I'm probably going to cancel my membership now and look for a refund and a new gym. Honestly super disappointed. Edit: Since JD has responded... As to the bags taking up "valuable space" which has now been put to "better" use, it only took up a small corner and is now replaced by a calf raise machine and a leg curl (of which there are already multiple in the gym) so, no. I appreciate that during peak times the weights were oversubscribed but I very much doubt the demand for a second calf raise machine and a (third?) leg curl crammed into an awkward corner is greater than all the people who used the bags to box. As for "indisputably better" I can't see how removing all the variety of non-weightlifting facilities, cancelling all the classes, and turning it into a dedicated weightlifting gym with a facelift is better. I can't speak as to all the other classes but the yoga was always packed and the bags were always in use and had a really nice community of people working in on them. The redesign was clearly based around a commercial decision to cut costs, pull in more students, and make it look nice to take selfies in. Not to improve the gym for its users - it is a downgrade. Based on my conversation with the PTs, clearly a lot of people feel the same way about the refurb and are cancelling their memberships as a result. I've added a picture of where the bags used to be for context.
