My husband and I recently stayed two nights here, we had a truly memorable stay . The room was beautiful and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom had a luxurious feel and an amazing shower. All of the staff were very helpful and polite and special thanks go the young porter who ran down the street to get our taxi . Would definitely recommend and hopefully stay again.
From the moment we checked in the service was by far the best I've experienced. A beautiful, warm greeting by two absolutely charming chaps set the bar and the team went above and beyond to exceed that early high standard. The rooms are gorgeous, as are the rest of the facilities. The whole building is decked out in spectacular fashion and absolutely immaculate. Would absolutely recommend this place in a heartbeat. We visited for afternoon tea on Saturday, and it was one of the best experiences we've had. The selection of sandwiches and sweet treats was perfect, offering something for everyone, and it was delightful to have a variety of teas to choose from. The atmosphere was wonderful, and every team member we encountered was incredibly helpful. A special mention goes to our server, Joseph, who was absolutely fantastic. We highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!
On hearing all the positives on the Afternoon tea at the Gotham, I decided to surprise my wife with a visit yesterday (Sunday). And it certainly lived up to expectations. We were greeted by the welcoming concierge Jason, who took us up to the dining room and handed us over to the lovely Phoebe, who then took us to our table. The dining room was fabulous and certainly in keeping with the history of the building as it used to be a bank. The smiling Julio came over and informed us that he would be looking after us for the afternoon. He had with him a small oak box containing a dozen bottles of differing tea’s, explaining each in great detail. I went for peppermint and my wife went for Earl Grey. He then handed us a glass of delicious champagne before bringing us our afternoon tea. This was delicious. Sandwiches, home made scones with cream and jam. The highlight was the delicious cakes, all made by Mel. All in all a fabulous afternoon was had. And I will certainly be recommending afternoon tea at the Gotham to all of our friends. We were made to feel very special. Thank you Gotham.
Disappointing Stay Despite Excellent Staff I want to start by saying the staff were absolutely lovely — attentive, helpful, and a real credit to the hotel. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The hotel itself is outdated and, frankly, quite dull. I had read some critical reviews before booking and chose to give it the benefit of the doubt — clearly a mistake. The room was small and bland, lacking any standout features. The TV had no Netflix or YouTube options, and the cushions were uncomfortably high, making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. To make matters worse, the shower dripped constantly throughout the night, which was incredibly frustrating. Parking was also a hassle, and the presence of ongoing building works outside added unnecessary noise and disruption. While the service was excellent, the overall experience was underwhelming and not worth the money. I wouldn’t recommend staying here — there are far better options in Greater Manchester. For example, Dakota is in a different league entirely.
