Star Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ Noise Levels: Poor soundproofing; disturbed sleep due to noise from other rooms and the kitchen below. Room Quality: Clean with functional amenities, but overlooked details (e.g., used dental pick on the floor). Bed Comfort: Sofa bed offered in a twin room setup; not clearly communicated beforehand. Facilities: Limited bar options; standard machine coffee. Commute: Convenient location with ample parking. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, Manchester East, for one night on a Tuesday following a concert visit. Unfortunately, my experience left me with mixed feelings, as several issues affected my overall comfort. Noise Levels: A Poor Night’s Sleep The soundproofing in the hotel was disappointing. I stayed on the second floor, and throughout the night, I could hear various noises—from kettles boiling and mugs clattering to a persistent two-minute period of beeping at 5 a.m. By 6 a.m., the sounds of breakfast preparation in the kitchen below were audible, even with the window shut. I later discovered that the beeping noise came from the reception telephone, which was loud enough to reach my room. My room was also located next to the stairwell, adding to the early morning disturbances. However, other members of my group, staying on the third floor, reported a peaceful and undisturbed night. It seems I may have drawn the short straw with my room location. Room and Bed Comfort The room itself was fairly clean, though I did notice a used dental pick left on the bathroom floor, which detracted from the overall impression of cleanliness. The shower worked well, and the room temperature was perfect, but the bed situation was less than ideal. We had requested a twin room, but the hotel only provided one standard bed and a sofa bed. This was not clearly communicated during the booking process, leading to confusion and frustration when we called to clarify. It took 10 minutes on hold before staff confirmed the arrangement. My roommate, who had the actual bed, slept well, but the sofa bed was not particularly comfortable for a good night’s rest. Facilities and Amenities The hotel’s facilities were in line with what you’d expect from a budget-friendly option. The bar had limited choices, offering a couple of beers on tap (mostly pilsner and lager) and a small, understocked fridge with a few ciders but no Guinness, which disappointed some in our group. On the upside, there was a reasonable selection of spirits and a few cocktail options. As a coffee enthusiast, I found the offering to be standard for a low-budget hotel—machine coffee, which lacked the richness I’d hoped for. Location and Parking On a more positive note, the hotel was easy to find and had ample parking, which was simple to validate at the lobby entrance. This convenience added value for those travelling by car. Final Thoughts For an affordable stay, the Holiday Inn Express, Manchester East, does offer clean rooms and convenient parking. However, the risk of a poor night’s sleep due to noise levels and unclear communication about room arrangements makes me hesitant to return unless guaranteed a quieter room. It may be worth exploring alternative options if restful sleep is a priority.
Lovely clean room. Comfy bed and pillows.Good size shower. Staff friendly and gave us information re taxis and buses. Breakfast was good, choice of cooked, cereal yoghurt and croissants. .no complaints whatsoever, would definitely stay again
Lovely room, very quiet considering busy area. Staff were so pleasant to our children and very helpful. Breakfast as good as usual compared to other Holiday Inn Express hotels. Location maybe not the best, but we only stopped overnight and then into city centre for work.
A bit of a dive. It used to have a pub attached but that has been knocked down and never replaced. You have a limited warm up menu in the bar/reception area. The industrial estate it's on is awful with nothing to see. McDonald's is 2 minutes walk and a large EV charging park, but nothing else walkable. Rooms are fine, staff friendly enough, couple of overpriced beers on tap, decent location for the city. I stayed here while on business; I wouldn't choose to stay again.
Basic clean rooms. Everything you expect to find, a kettle, iron, towels, a decent bed to get your head down. Breakfast was good, help yourself. Staff were lovely.
