Upon arrival my son and I were met by a very pleasant male member of staff. He welcomed us and advised that the room I had booked was a double bed and a sofa bed. He explained because my son is tall he would be uncomfortable on the sofa bed and he would happily swap us into a twin room instead. Which he did and check in was simple and problem free. The room was clean and tidy, with good facilities and a good size TV. We went out for the evening and returned late there were two female staff members at reception. They greeted us with a smile and asked us how our evening had been and where we had been. They served us some drinks and snacks which were reasonably priced and there was a nice little selection to choose from. We came down for breakfast and I was informed that there had been an error with my bill and that it had all been rectified before I even noticed. The breakfast was cooked nicely, there was not as much choice as some other hotels I have visited including other holiday inn hotels. However, there was still a good choice and good availability. Check out was simple and the lovely staff thanked us for staying and wished us a safe journey home.
Fantastic service and staff - special mention for Annie who was friendly, helpful and lovely. I was able to print documents I needed urgently, breakfast before I started my fast at 5am and just generally a credit to the company. Room was cosy and clean and had everything you need!
Ideal location for where I wanted to be but rooms were sub standard really. If you want to get a good nights sleep your car would be a better option as there is no soundproofing especially if you have an adjoining room door. All we could here was there full conversation, then TV and music played early morning. The shower taps fell off on the floor, the towels smelt bad and the shower drain was black and dirty. Not what I call a comfortable stay.
Star Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ Noise Levels: Poor soundproofing; disturbed sleep due to noise from other rooms and the kitchen below. Room Quality: Clean with functional amenities, but overlooked details (e.g., used dental pick on the floor). Bed Comfort: Sofa bed offered in a twin room setup; not clearly communicated beforehand. Facilities: Limited bar options; standard machine coffee. Commute: Convenient location with ample parking. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, Manchester East, for one night on a Tuesday following a concert visit. Unfortunately, my experience left me with mixed feelings, as several issues affected my overall comfort. Noise Levels: A Poor Night’s Sleep The soundproofing in the hotel was disappointing. I stayed on the second floor, and throughout the night, I could hear various noises—from kettles boiling and mugs clattering to a persistent two-minute period of beeping at 5 a.m. By 6 a.m., the sounds of breakfast preparation in the kitchen below were audible, even with the window shut. I later discovered that the beeping noise came from the reception telephone, which was loud enough to reach my room. My room was also located next to the stairwell, adding to the early morning disturbances. However, other members of my group, staying on the third floor, reported a peaceful and undisturbed night. It seems I may have drawn the short straw with my room location. Room and Bed Comfort The room itself was fairly clean, though I did notice a used dental pick left on the bathroom floor, which detracted from the overall impression of cleanliness. The shower worked well, and the room temperature was perfect, but the bed situation was less than ideal. We had requested a twin room, but the hotel only provided one standard bed and a sofa bed. This was not clearly communicated during the booking process, leading to confusion and frustration when we called to clarify. It took 10 minutes on hold before staff confirmed the arrangement. My roommate, who had the actual bed, slept well, but the sofa bed was not particularly comfortable for a good night’s rest. Facilities and Amenities The hotel’s facilities were in line with what you’d expect from a budget-friendly option. The bar had limited choices, offering a couple of beers on tap (mostly pilsner and lager) and a small, understocked fridge with a few ciders but no Guinness, which disappointed some in our group. On the upside, there was a reasonable selection of spirits and a few cocktail options. As a coffee enthusiast, I found the offering to be standard for a low-budget hotel—machine coffee, which lacked the richness I’d hoped for. Location and Parking On a more positive note, the hotel was easy to find and had ample parking, which was simple to validate at the lobby entrance. This convenience added value for those travelling by car. Final Thoughts For an affordable stay, the Holiday Inn Express, Manchester East, does offer clean rooms and convenient parking. However, the risk of a poor night’s sleep due to noise levels and unclear communication about room arrangements makes me hesitant to return unless guaranteed a quieter room. It may be worth exploring alternative options if restful sleep is a priority.
