Hi, stayed here for 2 nights and can honestly say this is a solid 3 star hotel. I heard mixed reviews about the rooms before I arrived, so was a little concerned. Check in was fine, had a room on the 3rd floor, and the room was nice, the bed was comfortable, and the only downside was the shower curtain which sticks to you while showering! The hotel feels a little old fashioned or maybe vintage is the better description. 😄

Went with concerns based on reviews I had read but was pleasantly surprised. It's an amazing building with old lovely areas of architecture. We were assisted by staff with our luggage from the coach and it was in our rooms after booking in and getting the lift up. Our room was a double deluxe. Clean, welcoming modern TV. As cleaning staff were of for Christmas lots of tea/coffee/milk and extra towels were left and plenty more at reception if required. Wayne Allen entertained in the evening with good music. Food available was with limited choice but plenty to eat. Not gourmet but good. Staff made every effort to serve us all with a hearty breakfast on Christmas day followed by a 3course dinner × glass of cherry and buffet later so no-one went hungry. Staff were amazing. Polite, helpful nothing to much trouble. I would go back and the hotel it didn't deserve some of the bad reviews for the price paid. If you want 5* then expect to pay for it. Thank you for a pleasant Christmas stay.

Honestly not a great place for a wheelchair user in my experience. On attending the hotel there is a push button outside to notify staff you have arrived. Wasn't sure if it worked as there is no light or sound, staff member arrived after a few minutes but told me their accessible entrance was broken so I had to use a staff entrance around the back of the hotel. Not a pleasant way in, lots of tight corridors and required a member of staff to enter and leave the building due to it being a staff only route. Room was large but the bed was very uncomfortable. Bathroom was small with a bath so there wasn't room to move around to use. I wasn't planning to have breakfast in-house but decided to give it a try in the morning. Went downstairs and paid, asked how I got to the breakfast bar as it was split level but told there was no access down. Staff did offer to bring me things but that really removes my autonomy and I would have liked to have seen the food that was being offered. Wished I had been made aware of this before paying, I decided to get a refund and check out to go get breakfast elsewhere. Again, had to be taken by a staff member to the staff exit where we had found that someone had locked the fire door and broken the bolt so there was no way out. Was taken back to reception where I was told I would have to be carried out the front door down the stairs. I was not willing to do this. A security guard offered another entrance with less steps. Luckily I do have some mobility so I was able to make my way up these steps while staff brought up my chair. Staff were polite, helpful and apologetic but this whole stay was a terrible experience. I will not be returning and my recommendation to any other wheelchair users is to avoid this hotel.

They "upgraded" me to a "better" room, but it was terrible, no heating, you could feel the air coming inside from the window. The furniture is old or broken. Some of the staff were very kind, but some others weren't. And they charged you extra 2 pounds I don't know why. Wifi is not free. And the only functioning lift was always being used and was so slow so you have to use the stairs every time (beautiful but long ones). The floor is very noisy. It was very cheap I must say, but the service it's not good enough even for its price.

DO NOT STAY HERE, we checked in after a not so friendly welcome only to find out there was people in the room we were supposed to be staying in. The staff were not helpful at all and seemed to be arguing with a lot of the guests. The place were very run down. We asked for a late check out for the inconvenience of having people in our room, they agreed and twice housekeeping came into our room trying to get us out so the message obviously wasn’t passed on. I wouldn’t waste your money staying here there are much better options in Manchester.
