You get what you pay for. We've stayed at this hotel 3 times as it is dog friendly, well located and quite cheap. But it comes at a cost. The rooms are very average at best. The hotel looks impressive from the outside but inside you can see that it's not looked after. The fact that it's dog friendly is very much appreciated and it comes at an extra cost of £10 per night. The breakfast here is the worst. We've had it once and it was literally the worst hotel breakfast I've ever had. The security guys, I get that they are doing their job, but after a certain time they are very intimidating, asking us questions and checking if my partner (male) knows me ( female), if we are together and asking me for the room number to check if I actually stay there even though we've come and gone from the hotel multiple times per day and they've seen us before. I guess they've seen many things happen but they could be better at it. As I said at the beginning, you get what you pay for. It is a cheap hotel in the centre of the city but not one of the good ones in general. It gets the job done.
Hi, stayed here for 2 nights and can honestly say this is a solid 3 star hotel. I heard mixed reviews about the rooms before I arrived, so was a little concerned. Check in was fine, had a room on the 3rd floor, and the room was nice, the bed was comfortable, and the only downside was the shower curtain which sticks to you while showering! The hotel feels a little old fashioned or maybe vintage is the better description. 😄
Went with concerns based on reviews I had read but was pleasantly surprised. It's an amazing building with old lovely areas of architecture. We were assisted by staff with our luggage from the coach and it was in our rooms after booking in and getting the lift up. Our room was a double deluxe. Clean, welcoming modern TV. As cleaning staff were of for Christmas lots of tea/coffee/milk and extra towels were left and plenty more at reception if required. Wayne Allen entertained in the evening with good music. Food available was with limited choice but plenty to eat. Not gourmet but good. Staff made every effort to serve us all with a hearty breakfast on Christmas day followed by a 3course dinner × glass of cherry and buffet later so no-one went hungry. Staff were amazing. Polite, helpful nothing to much trouble. I would go back and the hotel it didn't deserve some of the bad reviews for the price paid. If you want 5* then expect to pay for it. Thank you for a pleasant Christmas stay.
This hotel is extremely disappointing—it's a total mess. I wouldn't even consider letting a dog stay here. It's by far the worst hotel I've ever experienced. The place is filthy, the staff are unprofessional and unhelpful, and they wouldn't be able to manage even the simplest tasks, let alone run a hotel. The rooms are tiny, dirty, and feel more like a prison cell. Don't waste your money here. I emailed the hotel almost two weeks ago and am still waiting for a response.
Arrived here on 01/03/2025 and was placed in a room that had a very unpleasant smell and had to be moved room, we was then moved to another room which was smaller, the room had no window and felt very claustrophobic. On returning to the room my friend tripped and fell which we reported to the hotel the following morning, we showed the reception staff the photos of the carpet that seemed to be lifting off the floor, as a goodwill we was offered breakfast but to be honest we could t wait to get away from the place by this point.
