Visited Dan after a recommendation from my consultant for spinal physio. Dan's initial assessment and treatment was very informative and beneficial. I came away with homework exercises which were a little challenging for me given I've not exercised for some considerable time. I completed all the recommended exercises, which were a little difficult but achievable and I felt improvement after completing them. I've been for my second visit today and due to progress made, Dan has slightly increased the level of difficulty of my exercises following my physio session with him. I am completely out of my comfort zone with these exercises but given the explanations behind each one, I can understand the mechanics and importance of doing them correctly for maximum benefit.
I’d been struggling with shin splints for around 6 months and wasn’t sure how to fix them. I rested and iced and when they felt abit better, ran again but felt pain everytime i got to around 65% of my maximum speeds. I contacted Altius and booked in with Doug before he went away, who straight away told me that the issue was with an imbalance in my hips, and that I would need to fix this and have Shockwave Therapy alongside. He gave me 2 exercises to do and then referred me to Amy, who was absolutely fantastic. I booked in with Amy once a week for Shockwave Therapy, and she was brilliant in explaining what it would do, and how it works. Every session, she gave me new, progressive exercises, and within 4 weeks, the imbalance in my hips had evened out by 10 degrees. The scar tissue in my shins were also much noticeably decreasing too. After 6 sessions, having given me more exercises to do, she spoke about giving me a plan to get back running. The plan was thorough and has been very effective, and we kept with the Shockwave Therapy sessions whilst I began to run to ensure we kept progressing. Amy’s service was fantastic, always on time, always in detail explaining every bit of treatment and the benefits of all exercises and why they are important. I couldn’t recommend Amy and Altius highly enough, and thank you for sorting my shin splints!
The guys at Altius have been absolutely fantastic. Genuinely cannot speak highly enough of them. I'm recovering from shoulder surgery and hit a wall. I was told there wasn't much more that could be done. I still didn't have anywhere near full fange of motion and very little strength in certain positions. I saw Stu and Doug at Altius. Within 10 minutes they had diagnosed what the issues were. I've since had a few sessions and the improvement has been incredible. Before seeing them I was really down at the thought of being stuck like I was and not being able to do the things I loved. I couldn't swing a golf club, or swim or even a lot of things around the house, and was really restricted in my movements. The difference since then is night and day. There's still a little ways to go but I feel really good that under them I will get there and without then I'd have been completely lost. The actual treatment they give is top class but the way they treat and care for you as a person is even better. Cannot say enough good things about them and what they have done for me. Would recommend them to anyone reading this. You'll be better off walking out then when you walked in.
I was put in touch with Altius due to a last resort and I wished it would have been my first point of call. I have had a nerve issues going on for a long while in both of my arms. It got so bad at one point I couldn’t even hold a pen or bend my fingers. I ended up having to pause everything i enjoyed doing, weight lifting, climbing, pole fitness due to the fact i couldn’t grip anything. Was also affecting my sleep as I’d wake up during the night with bad tingles and numbness. At the worst point I ended up contacting my doctors which in turn got me an emergency physio appt with the nhs. I was seen for less than 15 mins and then was being referred. The wait time to be seen was 6-8 weeks. At this point I had no relief and couldn’t wait that long to be seen, so ended up finding a private physio nearby with availability to see me asap. After being “diagnosed” I was given exercises to do and was working with my PT’s at the gym to help move things along quickly. After around 6 weeks of no improvement and pretty much feeling defeated to the fact I can no longer do what i enjoy and it hasn’t got any better, I was ready to give up. At this point this has been going on for 3-4 months. My PT’s convinced me to see Doug and as a last ditch attempt in my mind, I was like sure, can’t see it helping but it can’t get any worse than it is. Doug has literally worked magic. After my first session with him I left the building crying due to the fact I’ve not had relief in my arms and wrists for what feels like forever and also the glimmer of hope that this can be fixed and the possibility of getting back to normality and doing the things I enjoy. At my first session, Doug listened to what I was saying and first thing he asked was if my wrists and forearms had ever been treated. Answer was no, they have never been looked at. Turns out after years and years of build up of scar tissue in both of my wrists and forearms, this was contributing to the nerve problem. The first session I won’t lie and say it was comfortable, it was painful but 1000% worth it. I’ve now had my 3rd session with Doug, got my 4th booked in and I’m seeing improvement every time. The place itself is super nice and the customer care team are lovely and super helpful. I constantly rave and recommend this place now and I will never go anywhere else. Attached pic is 3 days after my first session from breaking up the scar tissue.
Outstanding care from Alex, the physiotherapist. Alex is one of those rare individuals who is clearly at the top of their game but combines this with excellent consultation skills. An absolute bargain given the superb level of service demonstrated
