Great little bar with authentic Irish tunes, absolutely cracking bar staff always laughing and smiling but also offered very constructive advice about what to drink. I popped my cherry and had my first ever Guinness in here also. Plus prices on top whiskey very cheap compared to others
Tuesday 11th March I had a horrible experience at Mulligans and feel the staff and security do not take women's safety seriously. Especially poignant after they shared an international women's day post 3 days beforehand. A male member of the group I was in showed inappropriate photos of a woman to other members of the group. A lovely woman walking past saw this and called him out immediately, reminding him not only was his behaviour misogynistic and disgusting but also illegal. A male member of staff witnessed this exchange and was stood there for most of the disagreement also calling over security. The bouncer, after hearing the story, with the male staff member as witness, told the offending man to "ignore the woman". As soon as the security and staff member left, the man became aggressive with me and shoved me. I didn't feel able to report this given the response to his illegal and misogynistic behaviour some minutes prior, with his behaviour being accepted by both staff and security. After the pub had closed and my partner and I made sure the last member of our group was in a taxi, we saw the male member of staff who had been witness. We politely asked him if he had heard the earlier exchange, he had, I said it hadn't been handled well and that it had made me feel unsafe. At first he was attentive and seemed genuinely sorry. This changed when the bouncer in a beanie hat called over the bouncer from the incident and told me to talk to him directly. I repeated what I'd said and this is when things escalated. Whilst being interrupted and shouted over, I was told: staff had done everything they could and told both parties to ignore each other - admitting they'd told the man who had broken the law to ignore the woman who had called him out - that I was wrong because I hadn't reported the violence even though I didn't feel safe to, that rather than complaining to them about the response I should just file a police report and worst of all, beanie hat bouncer saying "we didn't know if he was showing pictures of his girlfriend", and "she shouldn't have been sharing pictures anyway". Eventually the 3 stormed off back into the premises. Men who commit this type of behaviour deserve repercussions, but men who stand by and allow the behaviour to continue are just as bad. Mulligans need to give their staff proper training around safety and gender based violence. They need to remind the bouncers what their purpose is and also what is acceptable behaviour. They need to be aware and responsive when the law is broken on their premises. Mostly they need to make sure they're not complicit in misogyny and that women can have the safe and fun night out that they deserve.
Nice pint of Guinness but not worth the price to be honest. Personally think it's over hyped. Other than the that the Venue it's self is pretty good with a decent vibe!
Expensive Guinness, that different bar staff charge their own prices for but you won’t get a pint of it for less than £7.20. Some of the bar staff take the piss with “ and your own” tip. A tall, slim bald fella took £8.70 for a tip. I’ll never go in again and the Guinness is average.
My wife and I recently visited Mulligan's Manchester during a day trip from Dublin. Having heard so much about their famous pint of Guinness, reputed to be the best outside of Ireland, I was eager to try it. When we arrived, the place was buzzing with activity, and there were queues to get into the bar. To avoid the wait, we decided to head upstairs instead. The atmosphere was lively, and the crowd added to the charm of the place. However, I found the pint a bit disappointing. Perhaps it was because of how busy it was, or maybe the pints served in the main bar are indeed better. That said, the overall experience was enjoyable, and I’m determined to give Mulligan’s another chance. Next time, I’ll make sure to try the pint directly from the bar and hopefully discover what makes it so famous. Looking forward to visiting again!
