Where to start? As a member of the hotel group discount scheme, I booked two nights at a different hotel, the Ibis Styles some distance up the road. My reasons for choosing that one were that it offered a direct tram link to/from the station as well as a direct bus to and from my work venue. When I arrived at 3 Portland Street, we discovered that my booking had been migrated to this one, at 96 Portland St. I am disabled. It took me the best part of thirty minutes to get to this hotel. I have previously stayed at the Premier Inn a little further along the road, working at the same place, and found transport difficult, WHICH IS WHY I BOOKED THE IBIS. The staff were great, the room was fine, but there is no kitchen for breakfast, which has to be taken in another hotel. What passes for a kitchen is advertised as a 'cocktail bar' called Chills, which is unstaffed. It is also one of those pestilential places where, if you don't do the irritating mobile phone rubbish, you can neither eat nor drink. Ordering can only be done via a smartphone app, and if you do not do banking/payment via a phone, you can't pay for anything either. I really, REALLY detest this system. Would I stay again? No food, no bar, awkward transport links: the answer is an obvious 'No'.
I visited this hotel on business and I don’t have a single complaint. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I stayed for the week and ordered 1 drink at the bar on the first night - 3 days later I returned and Dominic (the gentleman that served me) remembered my drink. This may seem insignificant to some but as a bar manager/owner for 10 years, service like this is extremely hard to come by especially in such a busy city. He also had great knowledge of the surround area, nightlife and just made me feel really safe and welcome as a woman travelling on my own. The food was incredible. Comfortable and clean rooms. 10/10 service all round, I will definitely be booking again for my next trip to Manchester. Thank you to all staff but a massive shout out to Dominic - outstanding!
This is a good solid budget option; They don't offer all the things that a higher end/higher cost hotel offers, but what they do, they do well. It's easy walking distance to most of central Manchester, particularly the train stations. They have a nice bar area, and you can use the breakfast buffet at the Novotel next door.
Great hotel, rooms are clean & tidy and I didn't have a problem with noise during my stay, though it was quite busy. Facilities in the rooms are as expected, tea / coffee / hairdryer etc. Beds are big and comfortable. Dominic, the Manager on duty when I checked in, was very helpful and was as friendly and professional as the rest of the staff I spoke to. Breakfast was at the adjoining Novotel, which was very good with lots of choices. Staff here were also friendly and professional. All in all, I'd recommend this hotel.
Great service and cleanliness from this hotel. Had a lovely receptionist called Jennifer who brought good vibes during our whole stay. Great location for people who wanna be close to everything e.g Chinatown, city centre. Would recommend and will definitely be first pick when we want to come back.
